Building The Pasquatch: Transforming a Nickname into a Brand
Client: Vinny Pasquantino · Category: Athlete Brand · Identity
When Kansas City Royals first baseman Vinny Pasquantino—better known to fans as "The Pasquatch"—set out to establish a stronger personal brand, he had something many athletes possess but few know how to leverage: a memorable nickname, an authentic personality, and a loyal fan base. What he didn't have was a visual identity capable of growing alongside his career.
Second Nature partnered with Vinny's team to transform "The Pasquatch" from a fan nickname into a complete brand system designed for today's athlete—one that could live across social media, merchandise, partnerships, events, and future business ventures.
Nicknames create recognition. Brands create longevity.
While "The Pasquatch" had become synonymous with Vinny's personality on and off the field, there was no cohesive identity supporting it. Without a visual system, the brand lacked consistency across digital content, apparel, merchandise, equipment, and future licensing opportunities.
The objective wasn't simply to design a logo—it was to build a flexible identity that could evolve throughout Vinny's career while remaining unmistakably his.
Rather than beginning with aesthetics, we started with the athlete.
Through collaborative discovery, we explored Vinny's personality, interests, sense of humor, competitive edge, and the characteristics that made him relatable to fans. These insights informed a strategic brand foundation that balanced his larger-than-life nickname with his approachable, authentic character.
From there, we developed a visual identity system that could adapt seamlessly across every touchpoint—from baseball equipment and apparel to digital content, partnerships, collectibles, and future business ventures.

- Alternate marks and iconography
- Visual identity guidelines
- Merchandise-ready assets
Results
The result was more than a refreshed identity—it was a scalable brand foundation. With a cohesive visual system in place, Vinny gained a recognizable identity that can extend across personal branding, social media, merchandise, collaborations, and future commercial opportunities. The Pasquatch is no longer just a nickname; it's a brand built for long-term growth.
Every athlete has a story. Very few have a brand.
The takeaway
The strongest athlete brands aren't built after retirement—they're built while careers are still unfolding.
By creating a scalable identity system early, athletes establish recognizable assets that support partnerships, merchandise, storytelling, and business opportunities for years to come. Our role wasn't simply to design a logo; it was to build the foundation of a brand capable of evolving far beyond the game.
