Designing Identity Through Heritage: Building the Amadou Onana Brand
Client: Amadou Onana · Category: Athlete × Brand
We designed Premier League midfielder Amadou Onana's personal brand identity, drawn from his heritage and family roots in Senegal.
For Premier League midfielder Amadou Onana, a personal brand needed to represent more than football.
It needed to reflect where he came from.
Representing both his upbringing and the values that shaped him, Amadou partnered with Second Nature to develop a personal identity system that honored his roots while creating a recognizable mark capable of supporting his career on the world's biggest stage.
Rather than creating a logo based solely on initials or aesthetics, we immersed ourselves in his story—drawing inspiration from his heritage, family, and upbringing in Senegal to build an identity that carried personal meaning.
The result was a brand rooted in authenticity before design.
The challenge
Many athlete logos are visually distinctive but emotionally interchangeable. Without a deeper narrative, they become symbols without significance. Amadou wanted something different.
His identity needed to represent his journey, his heritage, and the principles that defined him as a person—not simply his profession as a footballer.
The challenge wasn't creating recognition.
It was creating meaning.
Our approach
We began by understanding the individual before designing the identity. Through conversations surrounding Amadou's upbringing, cultural background, and personal values, we uncovered themes that extended far beyond sport. Those insights became the foundation for an identity system inspired by his Senegalese roots, personal journey, and aspirations for the future.
Every shape, proportion, and visual decision was intentional, creating a mark that could live across apparel, digital platforms, partnerships, merchandise, and future business ventures while remaining deeply connected to his story.
The objective wasn't to create a logo.
It was to create a symbol he could carry throughout his career.

Results
The final identity provided Amadou Onana with a distinctive personal brand rooted in authenticity rather than trend.
By translating his heritage into a modern visual system, the project created an identity that could extend across endorsements, apparel, digital platforms, and future entrepreneurial ventures while remaining deeply connected to the person behind the athlete.
The work demonstrated that the strongest personal brands begin with understanding—not aesthetics.
Identity begins long before design.
The takeaway
The strongest identities aren't invented.
They're uncovered.
When personal brands are built from lived experience rather than visual trends, they become timeless symbols capable of representing an athlete throughout every chapter of their career.
At Second Nature, we believe the best logos aren't designed around what people do. They're designed around who they are.
